Sounds Like Nashville
LAUREN LAFFER STARTED WRITING ABOUT MUSIC FOR FUN AFTER WORK. NOW, SHE’S LEADING THE DISCUSSION ON SOME OF THE BIGGEST STARS IN MUSIC, CENTERED IN SOUNDS LIKE NASHVILLE’S SIGNATURE POSITIVE TONE.
NASHVILLE SINCE 2015
“I loved country music, so I was like, ‘Why not write about it?’” Lauren says. The Florida native, who studied public relations in school, had some time after work, and a friend of hers had just launched a country music site. “She needed help, so I offered to help write because I was just looking for something to do,” she says. “It was just kind of a fun thing, I wasn’t getting paid, I’d work all day and then I’d go home and write articles. I just lucky was able to fall into it and had a good enough friend that she believed in me and wanted to give me a chance.”
The website stood out for its approach. “It’s always been our goal to portray music in a positive light,” Lauren says.
With Sounds Like Nashville, they’ve struck country music gold. The website connected so well with fans and industry people alike that business interest sparked. “It was eventually bought and with that the creator was able to give me a job,” Lauren says. She packed her bags for Nashville.
“Coming here was a whole new shift in life,” she says. Though moving to a new city with a new job was a bit of a life upheaval, she managed to hit the ground running. “The stuff I was doing at home I was now getting paid for, which was nice,” she laughs.
Now, she says, the challenge is maintaining a work/life balance, since news can happen at any time and it can feel never-ending. “News never stops,” she continues. “It’s just one of those things like, if you can get to it, get to it, if you can’t, it’ll still be there,” she says.
As Sounds Like Nashville continues to grow and connect with millions of fans worldwide, the mission remains the same. “It’s a website that was built out of love and a dream,” Lauren says. “We’re just going to keep chugging along, doing the best we can to bring positive, enlightening news to country fans.”
