“FURNITURE AND PEOPLE ARE THE SAME, AND IF YOU GIVE THEM TIME AND LOVE, THEIR SHINE COMES BACK.” - ALLY CANTRELL, LOVESHINE

Nashville since 2002 (Ally) and 1991 (Blake)

Ally Cantrell’s warm, sunny energy is evident from the second you meet her. “I always pray that people come find us that need a hug, or somebody to talk to,” she says. The Ontario, NY native came to Nashville sixteen years ago and focused her career in the music business. Though she says she started The Loveshine Shop on a whim, creating beautiful home decor from repurposed materials seems something she was long meant to do.

“I believe it sort of was God telling me to do it,” she says. “I was going to make a company and I was going to use pallet wood somehow and call it Loveshine and find a way to love people. The premise is that furniture and people are the the same, and if you give them time and love their shine comes back.”

I geek out about some pieces...especially older pieces, from the 50’s or beyond, that are antique pieces. Think about the stories they could tell if they could talk – the homes they’ve been in and the things they’ve seen!

To create the products that she and husband Blake sell, they use pallet wood as well as upcycled furniture to create unique, beautiful pieces. A day in the life can find the couple fixing or painting furniture, hitting the town to find a great piece to re-purpose, or preparing for a trade show or project. They recently were commissioned to create all the tables for a new restaurant that opened in Nashville.

“I geek out about some pieces,” she says, “especially older pieces, from the 50’s or beyond, that are antique pieces. Think about the stories they could tell if they could talk – the homes they’ve been in and the things they’ve seen!” Loveshine in some ways is about second chances: a new home and love for a discarded piece of furniture or decor, and a brighter environment for the eventual owner.

“I pray over all my pieces of furniture,” she says.  When they created the restaurant tables, she included a bible verse in each, and prayed over each table. “People are going to have their first dates at that table, or find out somebody’s sick, or have the worst night or the best night,” she continues. “They’ll never know it, but I was praying over whoever would be sitting at those tables for however long they were there.”

There’s certainly a magical quality about something made with love, whether it’s as simple as a home-cooked meal or as elaborate as a repurposed antique. Through Loveshine, Ally and Blake truly are restoring that magic to each piece and, at day’s end, to each home.
